Emma Grant's Star Wars Recs

You'll notice that I'm an Obi-centered fan, and so most of these recs feature Obi-Wan Kenobi in one way or another. Many of these are slash and adult-oriented as well, so consider yourself warned, if you've stumbled here by accident!

Recs are organized by pairing, but are in no particular order. Last updated: 1/6/04

Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon
For some, it's the OTP. For others, it's an incestuous teacher/student relationship. But we all adore it so.

Title: Twenty Questions
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/2/20questions.html)
Author: Annie Carr & Nansi Alexander
Rating: R
Summary: When our heros become housebound due to a planet-wide storm, questions help them pass the time and reveal some surprising answers.
Review: This is a classic! Obi and Qui, snowed in together, with tons of UST (unresolved sexual tension). Yummy! The ending will leave you breathless, or at least, panting. Must read!

Title: Pleasure Boy
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/p/pleasure_boy.html)
Author: Augusta Pembroke
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Where did Obi-Wan learn that sexy walk?
Review: I think this was one of the seminal Obi-undercover-as-a-pleasure-boy-and-Qui-undercover-as-his-owner fics. But sooo good. Run, don't walk. Oh, and btw, you should read everything by this author.

Title: Glory Glory Hole-elujah
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/g/glory_glory.html)
Author: Dr. Gonzo
Rating: NC-17
Summary: A cultural ritual takes an unexpected turn when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon find themselves on opposite sides of a hole in the wall.
Review: Pure, unadultered, fun smut. I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't actually know what a glory hole was before I read this. Sooo... it's educational!

Title: Cards on the Table
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/c/cards.html)
Author: Emila-Wan Kenobi
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Always in motion is the future.
Review: This story was a pleasant surprise, and I really enjoyed it. Obi and Qui meet a fortune teller, who gives them some advice that might change their futures.

Title: Compay Segundo
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/c/compay.html)
Author: Gloriana
Rating: NC-17
Summary: The Ritual of Acquiescence proves difficult for both Padawan and Master.
Review: Guh. Just... guh. This one made me go looking for my vibrator, I swear. One of the hottest rimming scenes I've ever read. The story is complex and beautiful, and almost canonical. It took me two reads to really understand what it was about. Wonderful!

Title: Blind Man's Bluff
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/b/blind_mans_bluff.html)
Author: Graendal
Rating: NC-17
Summary: A blindfolded kissing game turns into something serious.
Review: This one is wickedly sweet -- so innocent, and yet so... not. Obi is sixteen, and this is a beautiful little coming of age fic.

Title: L'Histoire d'Obi (The Story of Obi)
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/l/lhistoire.html)
Author: Lilith Sedai
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Obi-Wan neglects to pay careful attention to a briefing, agrees to accept an unusual mission assignment, and lets himself and Qui-Gon in for more trouble than either of them bargained for.
Review: This is one of the classics of the fandom. If you haven't read it, just go ahead and jump in. It's a wonderful, psychological, sexy story. This was the one that turned me on to the whole BDSM thing. Er, so to speak.

Title: The Jinn Identity
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/j/jinnident.html)
Author: Mrs. Hammill
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Who is the mysterious smuggler Jinn, and why is he being chased by telepaths?
Review: I love this story! It completely blew me away the first time I read it, and started me thinking seriously about the craft of writing real stories (as opposed to PWPs). It was the inspiration for my fic, "The Bodyguard" (which I really must finish one of these days). It ends a little abruptly and the plot isn't wrapped up as much as I'd like, but I can overlook that.

Title: The Red Temple
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/r/red_temple.html)
Author: Rushlight
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Obi-Wan goes undercover as a sex slave in order to find a governor's missing son.
Review: This is a wonderful story -- disturbing, but wonderful. Obi-Wan sells himself into slavery as part of a mission, and gets in over his head. You get a front row seat as he loses himself in the role, and it's quite a ride.

Title: Ex Y
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/e/ex_y.html)
Authors: Hilary and Jacynthe Demorae
Rating: NC-17
Summary: The universe hiccuped and every male in the Temple lost his Y chromosome.
Review: Funny! What happens when men wake up as women? Mace as a woman is just... hilarious! And of course, Qui and Obi are both so gorgeous they can't keep their hands off each other. Femmslashy!

Title: All You Have to Do
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/a/all_you_have.html)
Author: Ruth Gifford
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Silly bit of fluff written for the Contrelamontre timed writing challenge: "Write a story from the POV (not necessarily first person) of someone who's either drunk or tired."
Review: This is possibly one of the most brilliant "drunk fics" ever. Ruth gets inside the head of a drunk Obi-Wan, and she nails it. Oh, hot too.

Title: Forgotten
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/f/forgotten.html)
Author: Trudy West
Rating: NC-17
Summary: A slave with memory loss is purchased by an owner with a hidden agenda.
Review: A lovely fic of deceit and despair. What would it be like to have no memory of your past? Trudy makes feel it uncannily real. She also wrote another, with someone else as the slave...

Title: The Gift
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/t/the_gift.html)
Author: Wednesday
Rating: R
Summary: "Transmute (15th century): To change or alter in form, appearance or nature, and especially to a higher form." It happens to Obi-Wan, in ways he never dreamed possible. Master and Padawan must go forward from there.
Review: This is another Obi-turns-into-a-girl story, and a really good one at that. How will Qui-Gon react when his apprentice turns into a really hot girl? How will Obi respond to her Master's sudden attention? *grins madly* Yes, it's het, but oh so good...

Title: A Matter of Control
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/m/matter_control.html)
Author: Analise
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Our heroes' search for a missing Jedi leads them to a dangerous new planet and a new step in their relationship.
Review: Oh, this one's a classic. Wonderful story, action, adventure, angst, tension, sex... And what more do we want, really?

Title: Crystallize
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/c/crystallize.html)
Author: Torch
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A peaceful mission develops some unforeseen complications, and Qui-Gon Jinn learns something new about Obi-Wan Kenobi, and something new about himself.
Review: Beautiful, gorgeous pre-slash. A great story, and the feeling just builds.

Title: A Warm Place
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/w/warm_place.html)
Author: Jane St. Claire
Rating: R
Summary: Qui and Obi spend quality time together in the course of a trip. A spot of voyeurism occurs. Obi-Wan goes in for body art. Certain possibilities are raised. Sequel to Floating World.
Review: Gorgeous, pre-slashy goodness. This blew me away the first time I read it. It's almost lyrical. The hot springs scene... Gah. Read!

Title: Beyond the Pale
http://www.masterapprentice.org/archive/b/beyond_the_pale.html)
Author: Alex
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Newly knighted Obi-Wan Kenobi's serenity is severely tested when he meets a rather unconventional Jedi.
Review: This is a wonderful story! It's AU in that Obi is not Qui's padawan, but meets him as a knight. It neatly avoids my teacher/student squick that way, while using the wonderful philosophical tension we see in canon to great effect. This story contains one of the most interesting characterizations of Xanatos I've ever seen. I actually was rooting for Xan by the end, I liked him so much! It's funny, it's smart, it's long. Must read.

Title: Slacker
(Will post a link as soon as there is one. In the meantime, you can find it posted in 69 parts on the Master-apprentice yahoo group archive. Part one is here, and you can go forward in the archive from there.)
Authors: Ruth Gifford and Hilary
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Dr. John Quenton, Econ teacher at Reagan High, is fascinated with his TA.
Review: This is a wonderful AU, with Qui as a high school teacher and Obi as a student. However, the story really stands on its own; it doesn't need the Q/O background to be enjoyable. It's realistic and heart-breaking, with both characters depicted as flawed and human. They deal realistically with the problematic nature of a teacher-student affair, and so I enjoyed it despite my squick.

Obi-Wan/Siri Tachi
It's het, but I really, really like this pairing. So much that I mod a list and host an archive that features Siri Tachi fic.

Title: Contagious
http://www.queerasjedi.net/siri/fic/contagious.html)
Author: Helens
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After a long, tiring mission involving fertility rituals, Siri's frustration becomes contagious.
Review: A hot, hot tribute to the old Star Trek Pon-Faar stories. Obi/Siri at its hottest and finest!

Title: A Family Portrait
http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=664)
Authors: FernWithy
Rating: PG
Summary: Obi-Wan and Anakin, along with Siri Tachi, are assigned to impersonate a family to investigate a crime on the world of Malkiri, where the Jedi are hated.
Review: I wanted this to be Obi/Siri so badly, but alas, it never goes there. The author does make the attraction between the characters clear, though, and the tension is glorious. It's set not long after the beginning of the Jedi Quest series, and the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin is still wonderfully awkward. Siri has just returned from her long undercover mission with the pirates, and she's struggling with being a Jedi again. The characters are perfect, and the story is complicated. This one is canon, as far as I'm concerned. It's that good.

Obi-Wan/Bail
Jedi Rita's Obi/Bail universe
http://www.wyomingnot.com/rita/)
Authors: Jedi Rita, of course
Ratings: PG to NC-17, depending
Summary: The relationship between Bail Organa and Obi-Wan Kenobi, over the course of 30 years.
Review: Another one of the classics of fandom. (And no, I'm not just saying that because she's my friend!) This is the quintessential Obi/Bail. You just have to read the whole thing. Just do it.

Obi-Wan/other

Title: Jedi Exiles
http://nimori.slashcity.net/tpm/swhome.html)
Authors: Nimori
Rating: NC-17
Summary:
Review: A glorious series, with much promise, but unfortunately -- a WIP. Nimori occasionally adds on, but she's fully esconced in the HP fandom now, so I'm not terribly hopeful she'll finish this highly original and complex series. *sniff*
